What is a delivery order?

· 1 min read

A delivery order (DO) is a document that accompanies goods being delivered to a customer, listing what is being sent. It confirms fulfilment of a sales order — separate from the invoice, which requests payment.

What a delivery order shows

  • The customer and delivery address
  • The items and quantities being delivered, with their unit of measure
  • A reference back to the originating sales order

Why it's separate from the invoice

The delivery order proves what was delivered; the invoice records what is owed. Keeping them distinct gives a clean paper trail for goods received versus money due.

In VynSales

A delivery order is generated from a fulfilled sales order and inherits its line items, so what's delivered matches what was ordered.
