What is a sales order?

· 1 min read

A sales order is a document that confirms a customer's agreement to buy specific goods or services at agreed quantities and prices. It is created once a quotation is accepted and before the invoice is issued.

What a sales order does

  • Records exactly what the customer committed to buy
  • Drives fulfilment — picking, packing, delivery
  • Becomes the basis for the invoice

Where it sits in the flow

The order is the middle step in quotation → sales order → invoice. Each step copies the line items forward as a snapshot, so the order matches the quote and the invoice matches the order.

In VynSales

When a quote is approved, convert it to a sales order. Stock is checked on fulfilment with a floor guard, so you can't oversell. The order then converts to an invoice the same way.
